Abstract. A study was conducted into the process of oxidation of tar with the addition of a low molecular weight polymer with rubber crumb. In order to receive a sufficient pool of results, oxidation was conducted under varying conditions, as outlined in the paper. The effect of the additive was assessed by comparing the adhesion of the obtained bitumen with marble according to the methodology given in GOST 11508-74 as well as GOST EN 13614-2013. As well as this, the asphaltene content in the obtained bitumen, the IR-specter and the amine number of the bitumen were determined to propose and justify a mechanism of oxidation of bitumen.
