Abstract. Methacrylate copolymers are widely used as additives in lubricating oils to lower the pour point and improve viscosity. Although the exact mechanism of this effect is still being debated, it is thought that it is related to the length of alkyl side chains in polymethacrylates and the type of base oil used. This paper presents results from research on the depressant activity of polymethacrylate polymers, depending on the concentration of active substance and molecular weight, as well as the average side chain length of methacrylate groups, the solidification point of the base material, and the concentration of additive.
