Abstract. A procedure of lubricant additives dispersing capacity evaluation is proposed instead of the widely known detergency potential method. The procedure is based on the oxidation of oil with an additive followed by determination of the optical density of the oxidized sample on red and blue light filters. The efficiency of the dispersing capacity of the additive is calculated based on the ratio of the specified characteristics.
